What Is Neurofeedback?
Consider a smartwatch or other various wearables and apps that have the capability to monitor a person's heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, muscle tension, and breathing patterns. This monitoring of a person's physical body is called biofeedback. Well, brain biofeedback is the same thing except it measures and monitors a person's brain activity in real-time using visual images and electroencephalograph (EEG) recordings. EEG is a live graphical recording (like the one in the
video above ) of the brain's electrical activity, also referred to as brainwaves. This brain biofeedback is called neurofeedback.
Neurofeedback is a non-invasive and non-pharmacological brain training technique that harnesses the brain's ability to adapt and change (neuroplasticity) in order to help people refine, strengthen, and take control of the way their brainwaves interact and neurons move. In essence, neurofeedback training helps people learn to self-regulate (control) the way their brain functions, therefore, improving ADHD, anxiety, mood, emotional-behavioral wellness, and learning ability. This essentially allows a person to unmask a level of intelligence that was hidden behind the symptoms of the previously listed issues which interfere with life satisfaction.
How Does It Work?
At AlphaMYND Intelligence neurofeedback is done a bit differently. Here it is far more convenient, comfortable, simple, portable, discreet, and easy to use. Rather than hooking a person up to a large expensive machine with a sensor attached all over their scalp that requires an in-office visit, we have redesigned and repackaged neurofeedback to fit in the palm of your hand in a Bluetooth headband device that resembles a sweatband that a person might wear while working out. This allows people to train from the comfort of their homes, in schools, and even while traveling.
The AlphaMYND Band equipped with Bluetooth sensors is positioned on the upper forehead to measure electrical activity in the brain using electroencephalogram (EEG) software.
The EEG data is analyzed and processed by our specialized software in real training time and generates feedback in the form of visual or auditory cues.
Example #1: While in game training mode when a person synchronizes their brainwave frequency with a selected training frequency in the software the person's game avatar takes the lead but can steadily lose its lead of if the person's brainwave frequency becomes unsynchronized with the selected training protocols.
- Example #2: While in YouTube video training mode, or with any app on a cell phone or tablet, when a person synchronizes their brainwave frequency with a selected training frequency in the software the video's, or app's, sound and visibility continue without interruption. It's just like watching a movie. But as the person starts to lose control of their brainwave frequency alignment the sound and visibility of the video or app begin to fade making it hard to hear and see it until it is a black screen.
The real time visual and auditory feedback from the software during a neurofeedback training session indicates whether the person is moving in the right direction. Over time, repeated training sessions teach the person how to more effectively regulate their brainwave activity to achieve the desired results, such as decreased alpha waves or increased beta waves.
The goal of neurofeedback training is for the person to be able to maintain this MYND self-control at will anytime WITHOUT the use of the training device and software. It's like taking the training wheels off a bike. The results are significant improvements in cognitive skills, emotional regulation, and behavior.
